Half-Life: Opposing Force is an expansion pack for Valve Software science fiction first-person shooter video game Half-Life. The game was developed by Gearbox Software and Valve Corporation and published by Sierra Entertainment on November 19, 1999. Opposing Force is the first expansion for Half-Life and first announced in April 1999. Randy Pitchford, lead designer of the game, then noted that he believes Gearbox Opposing Force was selected to develop because Valve wanted to concentrate on projects of their future. During the construction, Gearbox brings a variety of talent out of other areas of the video game industry to help improve various aspects of the design.

Opposing Force was well received by critics, many described it as the title of a new benchmark for the expansion packs, in a manner similar to how Half-Life revolutionized first-person shooter genre. Other reviewers, however, think that the game still has a lot of negative aspects of the other expansion packs, although it is still considered as an add-on that is incredible.

Opposing Forces return to the same settings as Half-Life, but rather describe the events from the perspective of the United States Marine, one of the enemy characters in the original game. The player's character, Adrian Shephard, is sent to neutralize the Black Mesa Research Facility when scientific accident caused it to be attacked by aliens, but quickly found that the Marines were outnumbered and slowly beaten back by a second alien race and black operations unit.
