Ape Escape 2, like its predecessor, is a platform game where the player controls Hikaru catching monkeys scattered in each level. Like the previous game, the player controls the Hikaru using the analog stick and the left shoulder button while using the right analog stick to control various Gotcha Gadgets that are unlocked as the player progresses through the game. Along with the gadget like the Stun Club Monkey Net, and Dash Hoop, Ape Escape 2 introduces three new gadgets; which Bananarang, attractive monkeys with aroma, Water Cannon, who put out the fire, and Electro Magnet, which can be used on magnetic surfaces. New to the game is a monkey sidekick, Pipotchi, that accompanies Hikaru through most of the game. While with Hikaru, Pipotchi can give the player instructions, helping Hikaru reach the shore, and turned back when he gets knocked out.Throughout the game, players can collect gold coins, which becomes more valuable when collected sequentially. These coins can be used for gashapon Gotcha Box machine to unlock bonus material. Along with a wide range of collections such as concept art, music, comics and fairy tales, players can unlock new minigames three brands; Monkey Football, Monkey Dance and Monkey Climber, which can be played with up to two players. Monkey Football is a game of soccer, Monkey Dance is a rhythm game that requires players to match the rhythm of the dance moves, and Monkey Climber is a challenging game that requires players to navigate monkey in vines. Finishing the game open + New game modes where players can play as a hero of the previous game, Kakeru.
The game takes place after the events in Ape Escape, where Kakeru (Spike in the English version) stop Specter from taking over the world. It was several years later, and Professor leave for vacation leave his grandson, Natsumi (Natalie in the US version), [1] and cousin Spike, Hikaru (Jimmy in the US version), to oversee the lab. The Professor has left them with one task: provide load pants monkey in Monkey Park. Save Pipotchi, Hikaru makes his way through a military base controlled monkeys, and confronts Specter, who was waiting with his car battle a redesigned version of the first game. Before the two cans of battle, Yellow Monkeys, now giant monster thanks to an overdose of Vita-Z bananas attacking facilities. Specter flee, and Hikaru managed to scrimp and catch the Yellow.
Hikaru, Professor and Natsumi then find the purpose of Laser Lethargy. By firing it in the world, all people around the world will lose the will to fight, making it easier Specter and the monkeys to take over the world. Hikaru confronts Specter in his MoonBase, who attacked him with a giant robot. Once defeated, Specter tried to fire the laser, but Hikaru holds that humans will never give up, and arrested him. Hikaru and Pipotchi then fled MoonBase explode.
Shortly after that, Specter escaped and went into hiding. Hikaru then started to catch all the monkeys are left before Professor Specter's find a hiding place. Hikaru warps there, facing Specter, and two of them fighting again. Spectre lost and once again arrested. the game ended with Spike visiting the laboratory, which again shattered when Hikaru accidentally crash a spacecraft into it.
